WHAY
went on the air in 1990 at 105.9FM playing a true
variety of music. It was not uncommon to hear
everything from new and classic country to classic
rock, blues, bluegrass, celtic and and even world
music at times on the air.
Then,
in the the early 1990's, the station switched to an
all Country format before beginning its Americana
format full time in 2000. That was also the year
WHAY increased its output power and moved down the
dial to 98.3FM. Since then, WHAY(aka HAY-98) has
been playing a mix of new and classic Americana,
blues, bluegrass, and roots rock, with emphasis on
community programming.
In
fact, WHAY relies heavily on local volunteers who
host weekly programs for the enjoyment of being on
the air and their love of music. The only paid staff
consists of Dave Shelley(General Manager and Sales)
and Adam Phillips(Programming and News).
