McCreary County Little League registration will be held Saturday February 28th from 10:00AM-2:00PM the McCreary County Public Library and Saturday March 7th from 10:00AM-2:00PM at the train depot in Stearns. Draft day will be Saturday March 14th at 10:00AM at the Lord's Gym and opening day is April 20th at the County Park. Registration fee is $35 per player covering league fees, player insurance, and team hat and shirt. American Legion Post 115 in Stearns will accept nominations for officers at the monthly meetings the third Thursday of the month through April.
The AARP is again offering free tax preparation assistance each Wednesday from 9:00AM-1:00PM at the McCreary County Senior Citizens Center. Please be sure to bring all necessary tax documents and income statements.
Gracie's Rescue Outreach is sponsoring the "Dogs 4 Dogs" luncheon Friday February 27th from 11:00AM-1:00PM at the McCreary County Public Library. The cost of the lunch is $5.00 per person consisting of hot dogs with toppings or a bowl of chili, with cookies, chips and drink. Carryout will be available. Proceeds will help provide low cost spay/neuter vouches and other assistance for McCreary County animals in need. Some pet gift items will also be available for purchase at the event. The McCreary County Public Library will host a Tastin' Luncheon Thursday March 5th from 11:00AM-1:00PM at a cost of $5.00 per lunch. "Shop Local" themed baskets will also be raffled for $1.00 per chance. Proceeds will help McCreary County youth go to 4-H camp this summer. Anyone wishing to assist in any way, including providing a dish, can call the extension office at 376-2524.
The McCreary County Public Library will host "Movie & Muffins" Saturday March 7th at 10:00AM. Kids of all ages are invited to attend, wear their pjs, and enjoy a movie and muffins at the library. Each child will also be entered into drawings for prizes.
Grow McCreary, a gardening and sustainable food program organized under Grow Appalachia, will host their 2015 orientation Thursday February 26th at 6:30PM at the McCreary Center in room 103. Anyone interested in participating in the program this year, including last year's participants, should attend this session. A community blood drive will be held Tuesday March 10th from 1:00-6:00PM at the South Kentucky RECC community room in Whitley City. For information on donating blood, visit the Kentucky Blood Center at www.kybloodcenter.org.
A non-profit organization, called "Jacque's Hope" has been formed through the American Legion Post 115 Auxiliary to benefit children in McCreary County with a debilitating condition. This program will help with transportation, food, lodging, or other special needs while battling the condition. To make a donation to the group or find out more, call Trish Meadows at 606-310-3197, Marie Hale at 376-8278 or Darlene Hensley at 376-9666. Donations can also be mailed to Jacque's Hope American Legion Auxiliary, PO Box 987, Stearns, Kentucky 42647.
