The "Angel Trees" have come to McCreary County, to help locally in need kids have a brighter Christmas. Angel trees are located at Kroger in Whitley City and at the Whistle Stop Restaurant, in the train depot, in Stearns. Simply take a name from the tree, purchase a gift for the child, and return to that location on or before December 14th, so the item can be given to the child in the local community. This is a great way to give back this holiday season.
The annual "Giving Tree" effort is underway collecting items such as hats, scarves, mittens, and socks for children in need in our community. "Drop Your Drawers" is also underway collecting packages of new kids underwear for those in need. Donations can be dropped off now through December 9th at the McCreary County Public Library or the Community Education/VIPS office at the former preschool location in Pine Knot. Items will be distributed to local children in need before the holidays.
Champions/UNITE is joining with the Appalachian High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area to offer "Give Me A Reason".
