CHURCH NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Lord's Cafe will not serve lunch between August 3rd and August 21st but will resume unch service on their regular Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule starting August 24th. The food giveaway will still take place during this time on the schedule of the letters A-G on Mondays, H-Q Wednesdays, and R-Z on Fridays.  
Gospel Fest 2015 will be Saturday August 1st starting at 1:00PM at the McCreary County Park on Highway 27 just north of Whitley City. Admission is free with groups including the Patrick Family, Log Cabin Singers, Clearfork, Oasis, Southern Grace, The Believers, Kevin Byrd and Driven performing. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy a full day of entertainment, worship and fellowship.
Cherokee United Baptist Church will host their annual homecoming Sunday August 2nd at 10:00AM. Everyone is welcome.
Old Gum Fork Baptist Church will host revival starting Sunday August 2nd at 6:00PM, weeknights at 7:00PM, with Bro. Allen Burke, Bro. Scott Harness and Bro. Jim Bowman preaching. Everyone is welcome. 
Vacation Bible School at Taylor Ridge United Baptist Church Monday August 3rd and Tuesday August 4th from 6:00-8:00PM nightly. All ages welcome.

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS & EVENTS:

The McCreary County Farmers Market is open each Saturday from 8:00AM-12:00PM off Wilburn K Ross Highway in Stearns, across from the high school entrance. All items sold are locally grown or produced. The market also sets up the first and third Thursday of the month from 5:00-8:00PM at Jackson Heritage Park in Whitley City.
A Good Agriculture Practices safe food handling training class will be offered Tuesday July 28th at 5:30PM in room 153/154 at the McCreary Center community college campus in Whitley City. It is free to attend and will certify participants for food handling for samplings and tastings for farmers market and other events. 
American Legion Juniors will be hosting a bake sale Friday July 31st at 9:00AM at Kroger in Whitley City raising money for the Johnson County flood victims. For information or to make donations call 606-310-5505 or 606-310-3340. 
The McCreary County Fair will host a baby pageant Friday July 31st with registration at 6:00PM and the pageant at 7:00PM in the old Bestway Plaza in Whitley City. There will be no pageant wear, just Sunday best. Age divisions range from newborn to 5 years old for girls and newborn through 3 years old for boys.
The McCreary County Extension Service will host a family cooking class for parents and their children ages 5-18. Classes will be offered Tuesday August 4th and Tuesday August 11th from 5:00-8:00PM each date and will include health recipes, tips for leftovers and "less mess" cooking, farmers market shopping and more. Prizes will be awarded including achance to win a slow cooker or stock pot. It is free to participate in the class but registration is requested due to limited space. Heritage Trail Days, formerly McCrearyFest, will be held Thursday October 1st through Saturday October 3rd. Food and craft vendor applications, as well as parade entry application, for the downtown Whitley City festival on October 3rd are currently available at the McCreary County Tourism Office weekday afternoons 12:30-4:30PM and online at www.heritagetraildays.com. There will also be guided hikes, road and trail races, and other activities that weekend.
McCreary Central High School registration dates have been set for 2015-2016 school year. Monday August 10th new enrollees will register from 10:00AM-12:00PM, followed by seniors from 1:00-3:00PM and juniors from 4:00-6:00PM. Tuesday August 11th sophomores will register from 4:00-6:00PM. Wednesday August 12th freshman registration will be from 4:00-6:00PM. Thursday August 13th make up registration for all grades will be 9:00-10:00AM. There will be a freshman kick-0ff mentoring event and orientation Wednesday August 12th from 11:00AM-4:00PM.  
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Kentucky will present a basic mental illness training session Thursday August 13th at 1:00PM at the McCreary County Co-operative Extension Service office in WhitleyCity. For information call 606-451-6935 or 1-800-257-5081.
The McCreary County Park, in cooperation with "Three Strands Church", is hosting a free movie in the park Friday August 14th at dark. The movie will be the new release "Home" and there will be free popcorn, bottled water and candy, sponsored in part by H & R Block. Everyone is welcome.
