Harvest Time Assembly of God on Old Monticello Road in Somerset will host a camp meeting starting Wednesday May 31st at 7:00PM nightly through Friday June 2nd. There will be guest preachers and singing each night. For information or directions call 606-678-3033. 
 
COMMUNITY NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
 
The McCreary County Farmers' Market will be open each Saturday 9:00AM-12:00PM and the second and fourth Thursdays 3:00-6:00PM next to the Soil and Water Conservation District office, off Wilburn K Ross Highway in Stearns. The market will also open the first and third Thursday 3:00-6:00PM in Jackson Heritage Park in downtown Whitley City. Purchases can be made with cash, credit and debit card, senior vouchers and "double dollars" on EBT/SNAP. 
Seniors age 60 and older can apply for vouchers to use for produce at the farmers market. Applications can be picked up at the market or from the Community Action Agency office. For information call that office at 376-2593. 
Champions/UNITE is joining with the Appalachian High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area to offer "Give Me A Reason". This project offers free home drug testing kits for parents to test their children so kids can tell peers they can't use drugs because they get tested. The kits can be picked up at the McCreary County Sheriff's Department, McCreary County Health Department, McCreary County Public Library, Adanta in Whitley City or by calling Sunshine Canada at 606-310-1107 or Roger Owens at 606-310-0193. 
A community blood drive will be held Monday May 22nd 5:00-7:30PM at the Whitley City Fire Department. Walk-ins are welcome but appointments can be made by visiting www.kybloodcenter.org or by calling 1-800-775-2522 ext 3758. Each donor will receive a $10 gift card and will help save lives with your donation.
The McCreary County Health Department will host a series of free classes on diabetes self management meeting Tuesdays starting June 6th from 1:00-3:30PM at the health department. Classes are free. but registration is required by calling 376-2412 ext 1166.
Applications are being taken now for McCreary County youth ages 9-13 to attend 4-H Camp June 12th - 15th. The cost is $125 per child with a $50 deposit required with the applications. The deadline for proper t-shirt size is May 26th. For applications and information contact the McCreary County Extension Service at 376-2524.
The McCreary County Park will host a summer kick-off celebration Saturday May 27th 12:00-4:00PM with free food and ice cream, DJ music by Pine Knot Job Corps, face paintng and other free activities. For information or to help with the event, call Melissa at the park at 376-7275.
The annual kids' fishing derby will be held Saturday June 3rd 8:00-11:00AM at Barren Fork Horse Camp pond and is open to kids age 5-15, who must be accompanied by an adult. A hot dog lunch will be provided and prizes awarded. Call Dwayne Wright at 376-5323 ext 108 for information.
The Lake Cumberland District Health Department and the Animal Care Center of Somerset will sponsor the annual rabies clinic Saturday June 10th with shots available for $5 per shot and $25 for each additional vaccine. The clinic will be at Pine Knot Primary School 9:00-11:00AM and Whitley City Elementary School 12:00-2:00PM. State law requires all dogs, cats and ferrets over four months of age to be vaccinated and shots are good for one year.  
Registration for the 2017-2018 school year at McCreary Central High School will be Tuesday August 1st 3:00-5:00PM for seniors and 6:00-8:00PM for juniors and Thursday August 3rd 6:00-8:00PM for sophomores. Freshmen will have a kick-off event Friday August 4th 2:00-6:00PM with registration 6:00-8:00PM. New enrollees will register Monday August 7th 10:00AM-2:00PM.
