|CHURCH NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
|The 3rd annual National Day of Prayer
service in McCreary County will be held Thursday May 4th at
6:00PM at the Lord's Gym with special singers and several
speakers. Featured speakers will include Jason Kates and Harmon
Taylor. The public is invited.
|Redemption Way Church in Stearns will
host a singing, auction and dinner Friday May 5th from
4:30-8:30PM with all proceeds going to enclose the church
shelter. This will help the community through the hosting of
birthday parties, baby showers, and other community events. The
event will include several singers, food, and many items for

|COMMUNITY NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
|Donations are being sought to help with
the upkeep of Davis Cemetery. Donations can be made in person at
United Cumberland Bank or by mailing checks made out to "Davis
Cemetery Fund" to UCB PO Box 160 Whitley City, KY 42653. All
money will be used for mowing and maintenance of the cemetery.
|Champions/UNITE is joining with the
Appalachian High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area to offer "Give
Me A Reason". This project offers free home drug testing kits
for parents to test their children so kids can tell peers they
can't use drugs because they get tested. The kits can be picked
up at the McCreary County Sheriff's Department, McCreary County
Health Department, McCreary County Public Library, Adanta in
Whitley City or by calling Sunshine Canada at 606-310-1107 or
Roger Owens at 606-310-0193.
|The Mountain Craft Center will have
their monthly meeting Tuesday May 2nd at 2:00PM at the center on
Highway 90. Any crafters interested in joining are encouraged to

|The Limber Legged Librarians will host
a Tastin' Luncheon at the McCreary County Public Library
Thursday May 4th 11;00AM-1:00PM for a $5 per person donation
with lots of food to sample. All proceeds will go to the Relay
for Life in the fight against cancer.
|Pine Knot Community Watch will meet
Thursday May 4th at 7:00PM at the Pine Knot Fire House. Anyone
interested is invited to attend.
|McCreary County Head Start open house
and registration for 2017-2018 will be
Friday May 5th 9:00AM-1:00PM. Head start is located
next to the park entrance Highway 27 north Whitley City. For
information call 376-KIDS (376-5437).
|North McCreary Fire and Rescue will
host a silent auction and fish fry Saturday May 6th at the fire
house on Wilborg Loop. The fish fry starts at 4:00PM at a cost
of $5 per plate until the fish runs out. The silent auction will
close at 6:30PM. Donations accepted and appreciated to support

|A free pet clinic is being offered to
include the rabies vaccination, parvo shots, cat shots,
deworming and general health exams. The clinics will be held
Saturday May 6th from 8:00AM-5:00PM at Crossroads Community
Baptist Church/Learning Center in Whitley City; Sunday May 7th
11:00AM-3:00PM at Pine Knot Laudromat; and Monday May 8th
8:00AM-11:00AM at Crossroads Church/Learning Center. All
services are free for the public with walk-ins only and no
|American Legion Post 115 in Stearns
will have election of officers Saturday May 6th 12:00-4:00PM.
All members are encouraged to attend and vote.
|American Legion Post 115 Ladies
Auxiliary will host a DJ Dance Saturday May 6th 8:00PM-Midnight.
Admission is $5 per person. Members and guests are welcome.
|A comunity blood drive will be held
Tuesday May 9th 1:00-6:00PM in the community room of South
Kentucky RECC in Whitley City. All eligible donors are
encouraged to donate blood to help save lives. For more
|Benefit singing for 3 year old Camden
King, who has been diagnosed with Spinal Musclual Atrophy,
Saturday May 13th starting at 4:00PM at the lower pavilion of
the Sandhill 4-H Camp in Whitley City. The event will include
lots of food and live music featuring Kentucky Mountain Trio,
The Singing Hambys, and Heather Tucker. Money raised will help
the family with transportation costs to Lexington and Cincinnati
for needed medical treatments.
|The Hillbilly Mud Slingers Club will
sponsor a Hillbilly Mud Bog Saturday May 13th with registration
at 3:00PM and the event at 7:00PM. Gate admission is $7 per
person with children age 10 and younger admitted free.
Categories will include 4 wheelers, poor boy's run, full body
road legal vehicles, and kids' divisions. The mud bog will be
about 8 miles west of Stearns on West Highway 92 near the Hill
