COMMUNITY NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS:
McCreary County Farmers Market is seeking local crafters to display and demonstrate their craft during their "Christmas in July" event Saturday July 9th. The market is also seeking local vendors to sell produce and crafts each week. For information call Jim or June at 354-3727. The farmers market is open Saturday mornings after 9:00AM across from the high school entrance in Stearns.   
The Lord's Cafe offers free lunch to those in need Monday through Thursday from 11:00AM-1:30PM and grocery giveaways on Fridays. The giveaway schedule is the letters A-G at 12:00PM, H-Q at 1:00PM and R-Z at 2:00PM. You must have a current electric bill with your name on it for giveways and only one giveaway per household. The Lord's Cafe is sponsored by Crossroads Community Baptist Church and is located in the former Blue Heron Restaurant building just south of Stearns.
The Eagle Community Center on Highway 90 will take part in the summer food service program, offering free lunch to children of all ages Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 12:00-1:00PM. Meals are provided on a first come, first served basis.
Gracie's Rescue Outreach will host "Dogs 4 Dogs" a fundraising lunch Friday July 1st from 11:00AM-1:00PM in Jackson Heritage Park, behind the McCreary County Public Library. Lunch will include grilled hot dogs, drink, chips and cookie for $5.00 per person. In case of rain, the lunch will be upstairs at the library. All proceeds will support Gracie's Rescue Outreach to help with low cost spay/neuter efforts and other animal assistance in McCreary County.
The annual Stearns Homecoming & July 4th festivities will be held in downtown Stearns Saturday July 2nd including the classic car show and cruise in starting at 11:00AM, "Souther Writers' Series" with a taste of "Gone with the Wind" book signing in the train depot, food and craft vendors, and museum open house and silent auction. There will also be carnival rides, water slide and slip-n-slide in the OVC parking lot in Stearns. The day will close with fireworks after dark. The McCreary County Mountain Craft Center on Highway 90 will host an Independence Day Crafters' Weekend Saturday July 2nd, Sunday July 3rd and Monday July 4th with food, live music, and lots of craft demonstrations and sales. Non-members wishing to set up a booth at the event can contact the craft center by phone or by e-mailing mountaincraftcenter@gmail.com.  
Scott Solid Waste office will be closed Monday July 4th for Independence Day, but trucks will be running with garbage collection in McCreary County on a regular schedule.
The annual Moonshiners Run Car Show will be Friday evening Juyly 8th and Saturday July 9th in downtown Whitley City. For information visit www.moonshinersrun.com.
There will be a community blood drive Tuesday July 12th from 1:00-6:00PM in the community room at South Kentucky RECC in Whitley City. All eligible donors are encouraged to help save lives by donating blood. For information visit www.kybloodcenter.org.
